The creative writer's toolkit is no distinctive from that of any other artisan. It should contain an assortment of uses, materials, and devices to assist the writer in getting the job done. Instead of hammers, nails, and circular saws, odd to the carpenter's craft, the writer's toolkit will contain pens and pencils, paper and laptop computers, a laptop or capsule, and even an electronic digital recorder, if necessary. A creative writer must always have something to either write on, or record on at their immediate discretion. Inspiration can strike at any age.
Selecting tools that you are beloved working with is a key factor in deciding what goes into your kit. Some writers like using yellow legal writing pads, others prefer white unlined paper to write on. One uses a gel ball point dog pen, while another simply cannot write without the classic #2 pad by their side. And then there are the technology-minded writers, who never go anywhere without their ipad, capsule or laptop constantly in pull. Whatever allows you to really feel is what you will really write best with, so its okay to be choosy. Make sure your toolkit has your stamp of approval. In this way, you can be assured of producing your most creative work. As you are stocking up with the choicest writing uses and products, be careful not to over-stuff your bag with the same items, but only in a different color or style. Performance and quality, not quantity, should be the catchword in assessing your inventory of supplies. There will be all sorts of guarantees by manufacturers upon entering very successful writing results by using their product. They will be eager for your attention, and your money, so you must remember that your purpose is to select whatever is best suited for you. The writer's toolkit must also contain words. A writer is a wordsmith. Using words like the blacksmith uses iron, the creative writer must hammer out phrases and sentences to say everything that needs to be said. Along with the words there should be use of a vivid imagination, feelings of story, and lots of ideas on how to use these various instruments to make those carefully created combination of letters and sounds come alive on the written page. It is important that these ideas be thoroughly developed before the creative writer actually puts dog pen to paper. Ideas, and well-placed words are an essential part of a toolkit, and the key to producing imaginative writing. Original, and fresh ideas are very important, because mechanical tools alone will not get the job done properly, or wonderfully. The writer, much like other merchants, must also know how to use the greatest tool of all, the creative mind of applied knowledge, to keep the writing sharp. This is the tool that statements writers to practice the various skills they have developed, utilizing their assembled set of mechanical instruments. Superior skills only come with practice. Creative and inventive use of these uses will only develop by using them over and over again. For the creative writer, writing on a regular basis, using certain ideas and methods from within the toolkit repeatedly, is a fundamental skill. Using interesting vocabulary, words that flow with clarity, and the ability to organize words and ideas in a sensible format is also a plus.. Like a contractor, the creative writer must practice using the items inside the toolkit until they are completely familiar with how they operate. This would include using numerous tips and techniques that the writer has learned from school sources; the tool of applied knowledge is going a long ways toward helping writers to increase their productivity and improving their craft. The tool of applied knowledge might be the ultimate tool in the writer's collection. This is a tool which they can display to enhance their craft, both emotionally and physically. It absorbs the information, applies the concept, and then decides the best way to express it through the chosen medium. Writing classes,ISO 9001 toolkit workshops, seminars, how-to-books, magazines, and articles, (including this one), are applicable resources. And for certain, deep inside the toolkit there will be more cerebral devices, like rules and regulations, which must be followed. Rules are a plan, a diagram and guide that will help the writer construct projects that will stand on their own merit. These rules are flexible, however, and the writer has the option of either complying with them, or venturing out outside of their standards. So feel free to bend, stretch and break the principles as you see fit, but be original and fresh at all times. Now whether you conform or not is ones own decision, but the true creative writer will always adhere to the principles of forceful, and strong, writing; be the one rule writers must always follow; the solid foundation upon which creativity is located. Becoming more creative as a writer is not about being different. It is about having the ability to produce ideas that are both original and valuable. Anyone can be creative; you will just think wonderfully. How? When you're inventive and imaginative in your writing process. Creativity can be developed. It is not something everyone is born with, and no matter what level of writing you're at, often there is room to improve your skills and to study on others on the same path. That, is the way. In the craft of writing, you must never stop finding ways to make your writing more creative and inventive; the more the better. You must come to the table with an open mind, a well-stocked toolkit, and a determination to ensure success.
